Tying Instructions: UV Yellow Sally

1. Mash the barb of the hook down with the vise and secure the hook. Slide the bead onto the hook.
Step One
2. Re-secure the hook onto the vise and attach the thread behind the bead wrapping a thread foundation to the bend of the hook.
Step Two
3. Select a strand of flexfloss and secure the strand to the side of the hook shank at the bend of the hook. Secure the strand about 1/4 of the hook shank length.
Step Three
4. Bring the tag end of the flexfloss over the top of the shank and along the opposite side of the shank, securing the strand along the side of the hook to the bend. You should have a "V" shape of floss off the bend of the hook for a tail.
Step Four
5. Wrap the thread up to the bead and insert a small copper wire into the bead cavity securing the wire along the bottom of the hook shank.
Step Five
6. Secure the wire along the bottom of the shank to the bend of the hook. Select a Turkey Biot and secure the biot to the top of the hook shank at the bend of the hook. The curve of the biot should face the bead.
Step Six
7. Apply some hareline dubbing to the thread. I am using a Light Cahill color. Bring the dubbing up to the bend of the hook and lock the dubbing to the shank with a tight thread wrap.
Step Seven
8. Dub a tapered abdomen to the mid-point of the shank.
Step Eight
9. Bring the biot over the dubbed abdomen for a wingback segment and secure with a couple of tight threadwraps.
Step Nine
10. Use the copper wire to rib the abdomen. 5 spirol wraps give a good segmented appearance. Secure the tag end of the wire with thread wraps in front of the abdomen and remove the tag end of the wire with a "helicopter" twist of the wire.
Step Ten
11. Next, apply some ice dubbing to the thread. I am using UV Tan.
Step Eleven
12. Create a small ball of ice dubbing in front of the abdomen.
Step Twelve
13. Bring the tag end of the wingback biot over the ball of ice dubbing for your first wing segment. Secure into position with a couple of thread wraps.
Step Thirteen
14. Attach a strand of flexfloss in front of the ice dubbing with "x" wraps and sweep the strands back with thread wraps.
Step Fourteen
15. Apply some additional ice dubbing to the thread.
Step Fifteen
16. Create another ball of dubbing in front of the first ball.
Step Sixteen
17. Attach a second biot segment beind the bead with the segment overlapping the first one.
Step Seventeen
18. Tie in a second pair of legs behind the bead with "X" wraps.
Step Eighteen
19. Apply a ice dubbing to the thread for a final thorax application. This dubbing will be applied behind the bead.
Step Nineteen
20. Wrap a a tight ball of dubbing behind the bead, sweeping the legs backward.
Step Twenty
21. Now, bring the tag end of the second biot segment over ball for a third section of wings. Trim the wing section so that it overlaps the second segment.
Step Twenty one
22. Whip Finish behind the bead.
Step Twenty two
23. Trim the flexfloss tail and legs to length you prefer. The Finished UV Yellow Sally.
Step Twenty three
