Ostrich Herl is a “must have” tying material. Hareline’s herl creates a fluffy body effect on nymph and dry fly patterns. More lifelike and animated than peacock, ostrich is a great material for tying callibaetis nymphs, damselflies, midges, streamers, scuds and emerger patterns. Use this material on the Ray Charles.

Ostrich Herl is often used to create a fluffy body effect on nymphs and dry flies. The stiffer stem makes it great substitute for marabou on wooly bugger patterns, this keeps the tail from collapsing.
